  Did you gain anything, for being a JW all those years?

  the only thing i gained, was a limited biased knowledge of the bible.. how about you, did you gain anything in all those years spent as a jw?

  This is a good question. I would say my list of benefits would've been much longer while being a jw. To be honest many of those supposed "gains" would have come though most any way you choose to live life. Why wouldn't you work hard? Why wouldn't you generally be honest and show "fruitages of the spirit"? As for understanding your bible, why wouldn't you have gone to differnt churches and had at least a experimental phase of looking into religion? Now I view the experience more like a returning solider would view a war. The solider might have perspectives and training that the majority of society doesnt have. But once you leave the military all your trying to do is restart your life and fit in with normal people.

  i used to thinik it was better... but now i realize it was a way for the elders to keep an eye on who was giving!

  Perhaps when the idea started it was subtle and different. Now with all the different boxes to donate to, "temporary" special funds, and serveral congos having the same boxes out, I dare say it's rather like running the gauntlet. Perhaps passing a plate around would be less intrusive.

  i couldn't figure out whether to put this in "research", "humor" or "adult".

  however, since i had to do research to compile it, it ended up here...awake!

  I remember a special needs talk at an espanol congregation basicly reviewing bathroom use habbits. Although its not fully odd, as there are a good percentage of recent migrants and studies. Many are unaware that plumbing in the U.S. is designed to handle crack wipes. In their home countries you are not allowed to flush those paper nasties. I guess the cleaning groups got tired of finding used tp the toliet!
